A spiritual practice
A reflective visualization practice for people who feel drawn to work with themes of release, forgiveness, and inner renewal.
The Violet Flame is a spiritual visualization practice designed not only to quiet the mind, but to invite a sense of energetic transformation. Some people turn to it when they want to sit with difficult feelings, old patterns, or a desire for greater calm and clarity.
In esoteric traditions, this process is often called transmutation: not suppressing what feels heavy, but meeting it with attention and imagining it changing form—like ice becoming light steam through warmth.
The practice invites you to picture a vivid violet-purple flame surrounding you and moving through places that feel emotionally or physically tense. Its imagery offers a focused way to bring compassionate attention to anger, guilt, grief, shame, or other difficult experiences.
For many practitioners, the flame represents spiritual light, release, and a return to a more luminous inner state. It is a personal contemplative practice, and experiences naturally vary from person to person.
The Violet Flame is closely associated with the Ascended Master Saint Germain. In Theosophical and “I AM” teachings, Saint Germain is regarded as the guardian of the Violet Flame and the Chohan, or Lord, of the Seventh Ray.
These teachings describe seven spiritual rays, each with its own colour and quality. The Seventh Ray is linked with spiritual freedom, mercy, forgiveness, and alchemical transformation. You do not need to hold a particular religious belief to explore this as a non-denominational visualization practice.
Hold a vivid mental image of brilliant violet fire moving through and around your body.
Use spoken affirmations—often called “I AM” decrees—to bring rhythm and resonance to your intention.
Gently direct the visualization toward an emotion, tension, or relationship that you would like to meet with care.
Move slowly and adapt the practice to what feels supportive for you.
1
Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. If it feels meaningful, you might light a purple candle or keep an amethyst or charoite crystal nearby.
2
Take a few unhurried breaths. With each exhale, soften your shoulders and jaw; with each inhale, imagine welcoming gentle light. If you wish, invite the Violet Flame—and Saint Germain—to surround you in care.
3
Imagine a brilliant violet fire rising beneath your feet and surrounding your whole body. Let the image rest wherever you notice tension or emotional density, without forcing anything to change.
4
Choose words that support your intention. A traditional decree is: “I AM a being of violet fire, I AM the purity God desires.” You may repeat it quietly, aloud, or replace it with language that fits your beliefs.
5
Allow the image to fade gradually. Take a moment to notice how you feel, then drink a glass of water and return to your day gently.
There is no perfect way to work with the Violet Flame. You might notice calm, emotion, warmth, tiredness, or simply a few quiet minutes. Let your practice be patient, grounded, and led by what feels supportive.
